My newest completed piece combines my fascination with magenta and my bee series on wood grain panels. I’m pretty excited with the results of this painting. I had the panel with pink sitting around for a painting that never got traction, then decided to get it off the floor of the studio and to make something with it. The bee is a green sweat bee - they are actually very tiny! This photo progression skips a lot of layers, but gives you a sense of the process involved in creating an indirect painting with a grisaille (grayscale) underpainting and the glazing that follows.
